Description:

  • It was opened in 1999-2000, and has 20 undergraduates until now.
  • The department of Economics is specified for studying and conducting research in the field of Economics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • The study program particularly devotes to general ideas of Economics, both microeconomics and macroeconomics, along with a political economy of the Middle East and the world.

Department Vision:

– The vision of the department of Economics is to reach top departments of Economics in Iraq and across the region.

– The program of study is designed to use economic principles, ideas, and policies in allocating resources at micro (individual, households, and firms) and macro (national and global) levels.

Department Mission:

  • Contribute to the development process in Iraq and Kurdistan Region through education and research services.
  • Produce qualified students for the labor market in Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the international market.
  • Empower students in using economic ideas in their personal life, from establishing their own business to participating in public debates, and contributing to national plans.

Learning Outcomes:

  • The department of economics specifies for studying and conducting research in the field of economics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Throughout the program, students will enlarge their view on several aspects of the world and national economies.
  • The department offers courses that enhance students’ abilities in becoming entrepreneurs and establishing their own business by allocating their own resources (time, energy, and money) properly.
  • The department provides a friendly working environment and encourages sharing knowledge and information among the academic staff in order to become a leading team in the field of economics.
  • Analyze operations of markets under varying competitive conditions
  • Analyze causes and consequences of unemployment, inflation and economic growth
  • Understand ideas, concepts, tools, theories and models of economics.

Study Methods:

Study method in this department is the semester system. The system includes theoretical and practical lectures. The students are evaluated seasonally through exams, writing reports, and presentations followed by a final semester exam.

Language:

Arabic and English are used in this department (BA, MA, PhD.).

Duration:

This department consists of four stages of the Bologna process. This department includes practical and theoretical lessons in college. Each of them consists of two  semesters.
